CATHOLIC BISHOPS ADVOCATE JUST GLOBAL ORDER

MADAGASCAR -

Bishops of the German Bishops Conference and their African counterparts have advocated for a just global order, especially in respect of international trade that offers the same opportunities to all countries and peoples.

This contention of the bishops was part of the 7-point resolutions adopted by them at the end of the eight German-African Bishops’ Meeting held recently at Antananarivo, capital of Madagascar. The meeting which was attended by representatives of the German Bishops’ Conference and the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), was initiated to facilitate greater communion within the local Churches of the two organizations.

The theme for this year’s meeting was: Integral Development and the message issued at the end of deliberations was signed by; Hs Excellency, Archbishop Gabriel Mbilingi, Archbishop of Lubango, Angola and His Eminence Reinhard Cardinal Max, Archbishop of Munich-Freising, Germany and President of the German Bishops’ Conference.

While asserting their commitment to work for a more just world together with all men and women of goodwill; they emphasized that all human beings have the right to live a decent life; with their basic needs ensured. They however noted that “this social and economical path of development of humanity needs to respect the ecological limitations of our planet earth, our common home”.  

Other resolutions adopted by the bishops were: “Integral development can only be successful, when discrimination of people, especially women is eradicated;  as the Church in Africa and Europe, we commit ourselves to ensure that our evangelization mission and work are inseparably tied to the demands of integral human development”.

The bishops also resolved to e advocates of integral human development in their various countries as well as on the international scene and undertake to continue the dialogue of cooperation and communion between the Church in Africa and Germany. The declared: “SECAM and the German Bishops Conference will elaborate a follow-up programme to our Antananarivo encounter in order to realize our common vision and our concrete proposals in the Church and society.”
